January is the time for resolutions. For many that includes a new commitment to dieting and exercise, but what might God’s list of resolutions for us in 2018 include?

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbour as yourself.”

(Mark 12;30-31)

January might be a good month to commit to letting God and your neighbour intrude into the carefully constructed framework of your life.  But be warned – God and neighbours have a way of opening your heart, stretching your mind, and messing up your nice new diary!

If you are up for the challenge, why not start by offering yourself in God’s service to your neighbour by volunteering? There are opportunities to offer a ministry of welcome and hospitality here in the cathedral and there are opportunities to serve neighbours through our cathedral partnerships  (Dementia Forward, Salvation Army Food Bank, Jennyruth Workshops, City of Sanctuary, Walled Garden, Ripon Community Link).

If you aren’t certain how you might like to volunteer, try the online Volunteering Directory provided by The Harrogate and District Council for Voluntary Services –HARCVS. https://www.harcvs.org.uk/volunteer/opportunities This can help you to find the volunteer job that best suits you. If only dieting and exercise were this easy!
