A former corporate financier in the City of London, Andrew Kitchingman, is the new Treasurer of Ripon Cathedral.
He stepped up to the post, which had been held for six years by Philip Arundel, on January 29 during a service in which he was appointed a Capitular Canon of the cathedral. Canon Kitchingman has been an active member of the cathedral’s investment committee and is a founding trustee of the Ripon Cathedral Music Trust.
During the service, which was attended by the Bishop of Leeds, the Rt. Rev Nick Baines, a second canon, the Rev Michael Hepper, was appointed. Mr Hepper, who became an honorary canon, had been ordained at the cathedral, served for 12 years as a chaplain in France, and is now the Area Dean of Wensley.
Mr Hepper was one of five Area Deans to be licensed at the service. The Rev Canon Ian Greenhalgh, Area Dean of Ewecross and Bowland, is a former RAF chaplain who, when serving in the Falklands, preached to Margaret Thatcher. The Rev John Smith, Area Dean of Harrogate, is the vicar of St Robert’s , Pannal and St. Michael’s , Beckwithshaw.
The Rev Yvonne Callaghan, Area Dean of Richmond, is the vicar in the parish of Easby, Skeeby, Brompton on Swale and Bolton on Swale. The Rev Ruth Harris . Area Dean of Skipton, is the vicar of Christ Church, Skipton, and St Mary’s, Carleton in Craven.
In addition to the Area Deans, the Rev Canon Andrew Norman was licensed as Diocesan Director of Ministry and Mission. A farmer’s son, he read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford and also attended theological college in Cambridge.
