The “Requiem” by Mozart is one of the most popular pieces of classical music. Beautiful melodies combine with dramatic intensity, as befits the subject matter, whilst reassuring the listener with a message of hope and peace. Barber’s “Agnus Dei” takes his most famous music, originally heard as the “Adagio for Strings” (the American “Nimrod”), and sets to it the great Lamb of God text sung by unaccompanied four-part chorus: a truly moving work. Bach’s short motet offers joyous and typically ingenious music as we “praise the Lord, all ye nations”. Finally, Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” is a well-known little serenade for orchestra described by one musicologist as “an occasional piece from a light but happy pen”.
Leeds Festival Chorus have everything – blend, balance, flexibility and even good diction.
