Welcome to the very special history of Ripon Cathedral. We can trace our foundation to the middle of the seventh century, when the monastery established on this site was a power- house in the development of Christianity in England and abroad. The present medieval building is on the site of the stone church built at that time, and beneath the crossing we still have the original seventh-century crypt, where an unbroken tradition of worship continues to this day.
