Prayer at Ripon Cathedral
Prayer is an essential part of our life as Christians. We share with God the people and situations which are on our hearts. When we pray, we are also making time to listen to God, recognising his presence alongside us. In the life of this Cathedral Church, each day starts and ends with the reciting or singing of formal prayer and psalms, called the Offices. You are welcome to join us for these.
Jesus taught his followers to pray this prayer:
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
The Cathedral Prayer
you reveal your love for us in Jesus
and sustain us by your Holy Spirit;
by your grace, open our eyes to your presence
and our ears to your call,
that united with our patrons St. Peter and St. Wilfrid
and in the whole community of Ripon Cathedral
we may serve your will and see your kingdom grow
in this City and Diocese;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
